(1) Enrollment Requirements: NAV 3601
(2) Duration: 2 hours
(3) Format: Classroom
(4) Course Description: Part one of the Pathfinder evaluation. This rigorous written exam and plotting assessment validates your mastery of navigation theory and ability to plan under strict time constraints. You will be evaluated on your speed and accuracy regarding coordinate plotting, declination diagrams, time-distance-speed calculations, and advanced route analysis. By demanding precision under a ticking clock, this validation course ensures that candidates possess the flawless technical skillset required to lead others in hazardous environments and join the ranks of The Verdant Compass Institute’s Pathfinders. This course is designed specifically for individuals with advanced experience in orienteering or land navigation. Passing both NAV-4710 and NAV-4721 makes you eligible for the Pathfinder Course and exclusive land navigation challenges.
(5) Terminal Learning Objectives (TLO):
Participants will be able to:
TLO 1: Compute accurate grid-to-magnetic angle adjustments and time-distance-speed calculations.
TLO 2: Execute rapid mathematical calculations during route planning.
TLO 3: Develop an effective route under demanding time constraints.
